Be Part of the Student Election Board

Purpose

The purpose of the Student Election Board is to facilitate and coordinate elections for the following entities:

  • Illinois Student Council (ISC)
  • UC Senate
  • Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF) Board
  • Student Trustee
  • Referenda

The Student Election Board is composed of the following representatives:

  • Illinois Student Council: 2 current members (not running for office)
  • U-C Senate: 2 current student senators (not running for office)
  • Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF) Board: 2 current members (not running for office)
  • Student Trustee: 1 member (the current Trustee, if not seeking re-election)
  • At-Large Members: No more than 4 students who are not associated with any of the above entities and are not running for office. At-large members must be undergraduate, graduate, or professional students in good standing and enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

At-large members must apply by submitting an online application, which is reviewed by the Student Election Board advisor. The application is available continuously. Submission of an application does not guarantee appointment.

Membership criteria include:

  1. Appointees may not hold or run for any position for which the Student Election Board administers elections.
  2. Members are expected to always act impartially.
  3. The Student Election Board must have a minimum of five (5) students. If efforts to meet this minimum are unsuccessful, the Student Election Board may continue its work with fewer members, with approval from the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) or their designee.
  4. The Student Election Board may have no more than eleven (11) student members.

Advisor

  • Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs or their designee(s)
  • The chairperson of the Student Election Board shall be a student selected by the Student Election Board.

Time Commitment

The SEB shall hold regular meetings on academic days between the publication of candidates and the Monday following the week in which the elections occur, to review complaints and appeals as necessary. The SEB may cancel the regular meeting if there are no items for discussion or review.

Deadline

Applications for at-large membership are considered on a rolling basis until the membership is filled.
