Charlie Carr

(He/Him)

My name is Charlie Carr and I am a sophomore studying political science and philosophy. Here on campus, I’m involved in the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, as well as Starcourse and the Young Democratic Socialists of America. I’m running to be one of the 12 student representatives for the college of LAS. As someone who has been interested in politics since a young age, I feel compelled to take action in my immediate community. I’ve seen what the Illinois Student Government has done in the past, and I want to go farther. First and foremost, I want my campaign to emphasize one thing: accountability. In the past, ISG has been criticized for a lack of initiative and a self-serving attitude. While the ISG executive branch collects thousands of dollars a semester in stipends, the average Illinois student can hardly name a single one of their accomplishments. If I am elected, I will do my best to break this stagnation. I want to focus on three things in particular: (1) More support for student scholarships, (2) more communication from ISG, and (3) absolutely no increases in ISG stipends. If possible, I would even like to reduce these stipends so that we can better fund more deserving causes, and make sure the budget is spent fairly. When it comes to communication, I want to formulate a monthly communique, detailing the accomplishments of ISG, and making sure that individual members are held accountable for their voting records and attendance. The communique will also include a form for students to submit their own opinions, and ways to directly contact ISG members. With these three priorities, I hope to make ISG into a more accountable and responsible institution. Thank you for your time, and remember- raise the bar, vote for Carr!
