Krina Chitnis

(She/Her)

My name is Krina Chitnis. Currently, I’m a junior studying Molecular and Cellular Biology. I’m involved in various different organizations on and off campus; a premedical fraternity, NeuroTech, and Avicenna, to name a few. I am the daughter of two immigrants from India, and I have a sister who I love very dearly (although she tests me every time I notice a missing piece of clothing from my room). I intend to enter the medical field; I want to use my skills to work with individuals and bridge the gaps in health disparities. I’m a pretty simple person; there’s not much that’s needed to make me happy, so I don’t have that many material goods. Before I make a purchase, I quickly run through the positives that can come with the item, and if it is really worth the money I’m spending. I can’t count the million times I’ve stared at the Campustown Target’s freezer aisle deciding if I should get a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. I like to know that I’m not losing a cent and that my money is used most beneficially. I want to bring this mindset to the SORF Board to make sure we are using funds as best as possible. Each thing I do in my life, I do it with a purpose and passion. There is only so much time we have on this Earth, and we should spend as much time as possible doing things we truly care about. People at UIUC follow this mantra by joining RSOs. These clubs create places where they can grow as humans and create a beautiful community of passionate individuals. It’s the reason why I joined RSOs at this school as well. A big part of clubs’ infrastructure is the funding they get from us, and I want to be a part of the SORF board to help our RSOs thrive. I want to allocate money where it is needed without having any prejudices. Everyone deserves an equal chance when it comes to funding, especially in a university-based club. From being on the board of my fraternity, I know what it’s like to be a part of a team and have conflicting viewpoints. I want to be able to collaborate with fellow board members on where funding should go. I want to have a hand in helping these groups create and execute events that will have a lasting impact on our student body. Instead of picking up my usual ice cream flavor Half Baked, I want to pick up a new ice cream flavor this time and challenge myself. One club and one event can inspire countless individuals. As a SORF Board Member, I will ensure our Illinois family will continue to grow into a community where ideas and dreams prosper.
