(He/Him)

Hello, I’m Justin Dyser, a freshman in Gies with a major in Business Undeclared (I will be declaring Information Systems). I come from Carol Stream which is a suburb of Chicago. The reason why I’m pursuing a position is due to my interest in civic duty. I believe having the role of representing Gies I will be able to not just advocate for the university as a whole but also promote Gies. One of the biggest issues that I will advocate is the use of innovative measures to obtain sustainability. Even down to the smallest details, I believe there can be change as sustainable action can be taken from a personal and governmental angle. This can be done by having more awareness for students on what they can do. As well as a push for UIUC to apply policies that will help reach sustainability. Another reason why I believe I have a civic duty to represent Gies is to support out-of-state students. Unlike instate students they don’t receive a frozen tuition but instead have to pay an exuberant amount to attend this university. Therefore, I would advocate for incentives that make UIUC a more attractive school for out-of-state students. This would involve activities similar to what international students get allowing out-of-state students to build a community/connections. Another issue that I would advocate for is more intercollege interactions. This will help bring together the university and not leave people separated/pigeonholed in their college. This can be done by having intercollege collaboration events where leadership, professional, and networking skills can be built up. This can also be extended to informing students of different colleges about different events going on within other colleges. By doing this there will be a much more well-rounded university base. Another issue I believe that's important is to expand the iClicker loan program by offering other tools like the lab. Overall I believe UIUC needs to strive for more sustainability, inclusion, and resources for both the university and the students.
