Heyyo! We are Rudy LaFave and Hunter Farnham and we’re running to be your Illinois Student Council President and Vice President! Our collectively diverse experience as leaders in Students for Environmental Concerns, Illini Democrats, and Illini Esports, a member of Illinois Student Council, and coming from Schaumburg, Illinois, and Portland, Oregon makes us well-equipped to advocate for you.

At heart, we are both students and understand the wild history of ISC. We believe that ISC should represent you. Through open communication, transparency, and accountability, ISC should be your greatest advocate. Our job as President and Vice President would be to serve as the bridge between you and the administration. We plan to open a constant line of communication with students to regularly hear what you need. We will constantly keep you updated on exactly how ISC is spending its money since ultimately it comes out of all of our tuition dollars. We are both working campus jobs while being active members of multiple RSOs, so we understand the challenge of balancing it all.

We will take the practical and necessary steps to advocate for students. We believe in…

Supporting Student Financial Welfare:

  • Raising the Illinois Commitment Scholarship program to the 2024 median income and ensuring that every year it is raised to match inflation
  • Increasing the student worker minimum wage to at least $15
  • Elevating student worker unions by promoting their right to organize

Building a Sustainable Campus:

  • Shifting the university’s investments away from fossil fuels
  • Streamlining recycling of all types of plastic
  • Expand bike and public transportation infrastructure on campus
  • Making Illinois the BIG10’s leader in sustainable technology

Accountability Towards Student Wellness:

  • Increasing funding for mental health services and making changes for students’ needs
  • Collaborating closely with student organizations to ensure their needs are met
  • Protecting students of all backgrounds so that they feel safe
  • Ensuring that Facilities salt the sidewalks when it gets icy out
  • Guaranteeing that students know the work that student government is doing for them
