(She/Her)

Hello everyone! My name is Michelle Gornicki, and I am a freshman studying Political Science and Psychology. The core of my motivation lies in the sincere desire to be a voice for all of you, the students. I want to learn further about my community and engage myself with the student body. I believe that my involvement in the student council will help the university grow. I will eagerly grow alongside it, advocating for the needs and desires of our collective student body. I value the importance of various perspectives, which will only help our university flourish with diverse and fresh perspectives. Being inclusive is important, and I am willing to be an attentive ear towards these perspectives. I do think there are some ways we can improve our environment and community here on campus. For example, the challenges brought on by the recent COVID-19 pandemic have shown the importance of mental health support. Mental health issues have surged significantly, and it is crucial for our university to address these concerns. I am determined to advocate for enhanced services. Environmental consciousness is another area where I see an opportunity for positive change. With the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, it is imperative that our university takes steps toward sustainable practices. I believe we should reevaluate our investments in fossil fuels and explore more environmentally conscious alternatives. Additionally, we must address extreme weather events earlier for the safety of our students by providing resources to cope with the weather or going virtually. While I do think the school is on the right track to address these issues, we need to push these changes further. I approach this role with an open mind, ready to consider and act on suggestions to improve and strengthen our community further. Your support means the world to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent you. I humbly ask for your vote as we work together to shape a more vibrant and inclusive university community. Thank you!
