Dilan Sanchez

(He/Him)

My name is Dilan Sanchez. I am a sophomore transfer student from UIC. Spring 2024 is my first semester doing college at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I am an immigrant to the United States from Nicaragua. I am also the first in my immediate family to pursue a university education. I enjoy going out for walks, visiting new places and making valuable and enduring friendships with people from all walks of life. Humble leadership and service are qualities I always seek to embody in my everyday life and in everything I do. During my high school years, I sought to create positive change in my student community through active Student Council and National Honor Society participation. Food drive-throughs, student fundraising, and direct advocacy with school authorities for the well-being of my fellow students were some of the activities I helped organize and carry out. I am certain that Thomas Kelly College Preparatory is a better and more vibrant community because of the efforts made by me and former as well as current fellow students in Student Council and National Honor Society. I chose to run for representative because I am certain that I can create change in this student community. As a student representative, the well-being and care of my fellow students will be my number one priority going forward. Through dedication and perseverance, I will work every day to ensure UIUC remains a safe, vibrant, and diverse student community for all children who will come through our gates to pursue a world-class education. I will seek to advance diverse perspectives and worldviews that will make our university more complete. Tackling the challenges of food insecurity, inclusion, belonging, and mental health are the platform I am running my candidacy on. These are difficult challenges in our community. However, as a representative along with my peers in Student Council, I believe they are not out of reach challenges for us to solve. Rather, they are most definitely issues we have the tools to overcome and must.
