My name is Bella Birany and I am a Junior studying Political Science and Sociology. While there are many strengths about this institution, my time on campus has shown me the structural flaws that negatively impact the student body. Many students face the consequences of growing violence, unequal access to financial resources, and lack of mental health services. For this reason, I aspire to serve as a Senator in the University Senate. By implementing more emergency blue light machines, crimes that might occur on campus can decrease significantly and response time of emergency services can quicken. Budgeting in new scholarship opportunities for students can help alleviate the financial strain of attending college. Lastly, with a campus of this size, finding effective mental health resources quickly can be difficult. Requiring students to complete an online mental health workshop can help students become more aware of how to get help and help others. In doing so, I hope to improve every student's experience on this campus.
